U.S.S. Scorpion SSN 589

The U.S.S. Scorpion was lost at sea in 1968 there is evidence she may have been sunk by a soviet submarine off the Azores.  Scorpion may have gotten in her licks though a soviet attack submarine that was heavily damaged was afloat  photographed on the surface of the North Atlantic; it was seen adrift by nato  reconnissance aircraft.  A possible paper over and coverup of this by the navy is indicated from the evidence and timeline of events in the sinking of the submarine and her 99 man crew.
